Why Employee Engagement Is Studied, Not Practiced

Employee engagement is directly tied to financial success. It can make or break an organization. So it’s no surprise it remains in the spotlight, frequently strategized in the boardroom, a popular conference topic, and the subject of numerous books, papers, and articles.

Yet a recent study found that two-thirds of the workforce are not engaged. There’s a disconnect here. Employee engagement is studied. It’s measured and analyzed. But it’s not being practiced.

As I wrote recently, an employee survey is not employee engagement.

As a first step on the road to engagement, you could do what HP did and begin with a conversation about what your employees care about.
